Here’s the Kpop weekly chart for March Week 1. As usual, this chart is taken from soompi

Comment: After spending the last three weeks at No. 2, 2AM finally unseated SNSD and scored their first No. 1 song on our chart with “Can’t Send You Even If I Die”, a song produced by hitmaker “Hitman” Bang Shi Hyuk. Through their new mini-album, 2AM will be able to show hybrid genres with trendy sounds and danceable beats, a 200% upgrade from their last. To fit the global trends in music, electronica sounds can also be heard. We are able to see that 2AM are also capable of dance numbers. The title track which is the same as the mini-album title, is still the vintage power ballad we are known of 2AM. Congratulations!

Comment: SNSD’s “Oh!” dropped one spot to No. 2 after spending two weeks at the top. After a very successful 2009 seeing them become one of k-pop’s premier girl groups, SNSD is back with their 2nd full length album “Oh!”. The title track which is the same as the album title is composed by Kenzie. It is of the electronic pop genre and is about confessing to a crush in a cute and honest way.

Comment: This is the title track of CNBlue’s first mini-album “Bluetory.” CNBlue debuted as an indie band in Japan and has honed its skills ever since. This song has a magnificent beat and addictive melody, which make it sound very sophisticated. (credits to Arirang TV – Pops In Seoul)

Comment: Buzz’s main vocalist moves up another spot to No. 4. Min Kyung Hoon makes a comeback after two years with a five track mini album. The singer has taken part in selecting these songs carefully. The title track “It’s Love Because It Hurts” is written by Cho Young Soo and Kang Eun Kyung. It has an intense violin intro before settling into a beautiful ballad melody.

Comment: With his trademark high pitch voice, “The One Man” Kim Jong Kook is back with his 6th album “Eleventh Story”. The title comes from the eleven albums he has released in total since his Turbo days. There are also a total of eleven tracks which all showcases his sweet vocals. Title song “It’s This Person” is a sweet easy listening ballad which is tailor-made to fit the singer’s voice. This week it dropped one spot to No. 5.

6. (New) Kara – 루팡 (Lupin) *** HOT SHOT DEBUT ***

Comment: After surprisingly winning the top female group on our last year’s Soompi Gayo Award, Kara continues their strong showing on our chart. The title song “Lupin” from their recently released 3rd mini-album of the same name debuted very high at No. 6 this week. Kara vowed to return to a more fierce image on this mini-album, a concept that did not fare too well when they used it on their debut album. But that was then and this is now. Kara has developed a large and loyal fan base now and fans are more receptive of their change in concept this time.

7. (+1) 4men (feat. 美) – 못해 (Can’t Do)

Comment: Title song of 4Men’s special album entitled “The 3rd Generation.” Written by Vibe’s Yoon Min-soo, the rhythm is tension-filled till the end, with heart-breaking lyrics and the sound of Shin Yong-jae’s explosive vocals. Comment: U-Kiss finally releases their first full length album “Only One, Without You”. Hit maker, Brave Brothers have participated in the album by producing it and composing songs including the title track is “Spinning;” it is an electronic hip-hop number. The song will catch listeners’ attentions from the start. This week it dropped one spot to No. 8.

Comment: Popular hip-hop duo Untouchable is back with their 2nd mini-album. To fit the winter season, this time they have selected a ballad “Live In The Heart” to promote. It also features the sweet vocal of Brown Eyed Girls member Narcia. This week it moves up another spot to No. 9.

Comment: This is the title track of Gavy NJ’s fourth studio album. It is a medium-tempo song about the desire to find one’s love. The accompaniment of a 28-member string orchestra creates a magnificent and beautiful melody. The main melody, which begins in the prelude, and the ample vocals make this song very impressive. Comment: Lee Seung Ki’s latest hit “Love Teaches You How To Drink” is from the repackaged version of his 4th album. This song even though still a ballad, has a more up-tempo arrangement. It also features the rapping of 8Eight’s Baek Chan. “Love Teaches You How To Drink” is written by the combination of Hitman Bang and Baek Chan. This team has written many hit songs for different artists recently.

Comment: Last year’s top new artist, 2NE1, is back with their latest digital single “Try To Follow Me” to hype music listeners. The song was composed by Teddy who has also done “Fire,” “I Don’t Care,” Dara’s “Kiss,” Park Bom’s “You and I,” and CL & Minzi’s “Please Don’t Go.” The song has an unstoppable and strong feel to it. This song is for the new Samsung Corby Folder phone and 2NE1 filmed a CF for it. With usual YG styled hiphop and upbeat music, this song uses a phase of Korean children’s song “Try to Follow Me.” Within a few hours after the release it took No. 1 spots on many online Korean music charts.

15. (New) Big Bang – Lollipop Part 2

Comment: Last year, Big Bang introduced 2NE1 (who ironically is one spot above them this week) with the song Lollipop. Now part 2 of this song has just been released and it is all Big Bang this time. During the past year, each of the members has been busy with their solo activities whether it was through solo music activities or for drama soundtracks. This is their first time in a while since the group has worked together as a whole. The song is a hip-hop electronica number for the LG Cyon mobile phone and once again, it was composed by Teddy with lyrics penned by Teddy, G-Dragon, and TOP. Through this song, the boys are to show their sexy and manly side.

16. (New) T-Ara – 너 때문에 미쳐 (Crazy Because Of You)

Comment: T-Ara who has released hits including “Lie,” “Bo Peep Bo Peep” and “Like The First Time” has done a 180 degree turn with their repackaged version of their first album. The title track is “Crazy Because of You” and it was made by an all-star combination: co-composed by Jo Young Soo and Kim Tae Hyun and penned by Wheesung. This dance track has a pop feel with electronic sounds. This song replaced “Like The First Time” and debuted at No. 16 this week.

Comment: This is the title track of ZE:A’s debut single album “Nativity.” “Mazeltov” means “good luck” and it can be heard repeatedly throughout the song. It has an addictive and appealing chorus. Comment: We are seeing a continuous revival of drama OST songs on the chart. The latest one on the top 20 is from the highly rated KBS historical drama “Chuno” starring Jang Hyuk, Oh Ji Ho, and Lee Da Hae. The OST comes with the huskiest male voice in Korea in the name of Yim Jae Bum whose theme song “Stigma” is his first top 20 hit in many many years. This week it moves up a spot again to No. 18.

19. (-2) Ga In & Jo Kwon – 우리 사랑하게 됐어요 (We Fell In Love)

Comment: The latest hit coming from the reality TV Show “We Got Married”. The song features Brown Eyed Girl’s Ga In and 2AM’s Jo Kwon. It’s composed by Brown Eyed Girl’s leader Je-A. It is a nice duet song that has an (8 beat) new wave sound that was popular during the 1980s. Composer Lee Min Soo (Love; Abracadabra) and lyricist Kim In Na have contributed in creating the song as well. Ga In and Jo Kwon also contributed to the lyrics by telling honest stories of their make-believe marriage life. Through this couple/duet song, we will be able to listen to their wonderful harmony and outstanding vocal skills.
