Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2010 – April Week 3

Ok, after hiatus for 4 days let’s start this bright morning with K-Pop Music Chart Weekly : April Week 3.

1. (–) 2AM – 잘못했어 (I Did Wrong) *** 2 WEEKS NO. 1 *** Score: 926
Genre: Pop / Dance

Album: 2AM mini-album (repackaged version) Track 2
Comment: 2AM held on to the top spot for another week despite very strong competition coming from behind. The group scored their second consecutive No. 1 songs with “I Did Wrong”. This song incorporates both dance and ballad elements while bringing out the theme of love. It starts off with strings and piano along with euro beats and drum sounds. The MV starring members Jo Kwon as a club DJ, Chang Min as a hockey player, Seul Ong as a biker, and Jin Woon as a basketball player. 2AM becomes the second artist to score two No. 1 songs this year, the other one being T-Ara.

2. (+9) After School – 뱅 (Bang!)

Comment: Leaping over many strong challengers up nine spots to No. 2 is rising girl group After School who released their third single album “Bang!”. The song was composed and penned by Kim Tae Hyeon and Kim Hee Seon respectively. This song was originally going to be a follow up single on their previous mini album, but was saved up for later to upgrade it. The song uses drum sounds as its backbone with powerful vocals to accompany it.

3. (+2) SNSD – Run Devil Run

Album: SNSD Vol. 2 repackaged version Track 1
Comment: Like many artists, SNSD released a repackaged version of their latest album after a successful run by the song “Oh!” on top of the chart. They unveiled their new concept: “Black Soshi.” Through this new concept, the girls are to show off their powerful charismatic charms. The title track off their repackaged sophomore album is, “Run Devil Run”. The girls are also going to show off their glam and chic look. The song is moving up slower than expected and the main reason is that it is not ranked too high on airplay charts. However, it still has the potential to go to No. 1 next week.

4. (-2) Kara – 루팡 (Lupin)

Album: Kara mini-album Vol. 3 Track 2
Comment: This is the title track of Kara’s 3rd mini-album. It is a dance pop number with an extravagant hip-hop beat and stimulating synth sounds. It has intense and refreshing sounds and is performed with the members’ impressive voices. 5. (New) Rain – 널 붙잡을 노래 (Love Song) *** HOT SHOT DEBUT ***

Comment: Asia’s biggest pop star Rain is finally returning to the k-pop scene and releasing a new special album “Back To The Basic”. The meaning behind the title is that despite being in the music business for eight years, his heart and effort in it is like that of a rookie artist. Many anticipate his new work which includes a photo shoot that equally captured attention from fans and non-fans alike. The title song “Love Song ” has already topped many charts upon its release, and it is our highest debut this week at No. 5. Popular actress Han Ye Sul stars with Rain in this song’s MV.

6. (-3) T-Ara – 너 때문에 미쳐 (Crazy Because Of You)

Comment: This is the title track of Tiara’s repackage album, “Breaking Heart.” Having drawn attention with lyrics written by Whee Sung, this dance track mixes a pop feel and electronic sound. 7. (-1) K.Will (feat. Eun Ji Won) – 선물 (Present)

Album: K.Will digital single “Present” Track 1
Comment: K.Will’s latest hit “Present” dropped one spot to No. 7 this week. K.Will returns this spring with a new single, “Present” featuring hip-hop rapper Eun Ji Won. It is a medium tempo track about wanting to give the most beautiful present to a loved one. K.Will’s voice blends well with the instruments of the song.

8. (-1) Beast – Shock

Album: Beast mini-album Vol. 2 Track 2
Comment: This is the title track of Beast’s second mini-album, “Shock of the New Era.” A synth segment reminiscent of a heavy metal guitar riff mixes well with a brief but heavy and fun rhythm. 9. (New) Secret – Magic

Genre: Pop / Dance

Album: Secret 1st mini-album “Secret Time” Track 2
Comment: Perhaps overlooked last year with so many strong girl groups debuting, Secret (consists of Jeon Hyo Seong, Han Seon Hwa, Song Ji Eun, and Jing Geo) still impressed many fans with their debut song “I Want You Back”. Since then member Song Ji Eun has released a solo digital single duet with Hwan Hee, and also performed with Untouchable on their recent hit “Live In The Heart”. Now Secret releases their first mini album, “Secret Time”. The title track is “Magic” which has lively beats and was composed by Sinsadong Tiger, Kang Ji Won, and Kim Ki Bum. This time it is well received by all the media and fans and it becomes the group’s first top 10 hit, debuting at No. 9 this week. This will definitely be their breakthrough hit and puts Secret on the map with already an amazing core of girl groups.

10. (-2) MC Mong (feat. Seo In Young) – Bubble Love

Album: Cho Young Soo All Star Vol. 2.5 Track 1
Comment: MC Mong, who is largely responsible for bringing hip-hop style ballads to k-pop with many great past hits like “A Letter Written To You”, “I Love U Oh Thank You” etc., is teaming up with top songwriter Cho Young Soo and the vocal of Seo In Young for his latest hit “Bubble Love”. This song is part of Cho Young Soo’s last “All Star” series (Vol. 2.5). This week it dropped two spots to No. 10. Be sure to check out this song if you like MC Mong’s past hip-hop ballads.

11. (-7) Epik High – Run

Comment: Title song of Epik High’s 11th studio album, “Epilogue.” The music and rhythm that resemble a race come together with the group’s literary lyrics, creating much emotion. The song encourages everyone who feels left out to race towards their dreams. (credits to Arirang TV – Pops In Seoul)

12. (-3) Baek Ji Young and Mighty Mouth – 사랑이 올까요 (Will Love Come?)

Album: Baek Ji Young and Mighty Mouth digital single “Will Love Come?” Track 1
Comment: Hip-hop duo, Mighty Mouth and veteran singer, Baek Ji Young collaborates with a new single, “Will Love Come.” This duet track is of the popular electro-hop (electronica and hip-hop) genre. The music video stars Lee Yong Woo and Gook Ji Yeon who starred in the drama series, Boys Over Flowers. This week it dropped back to No. 12.

13. (+1) Big Mama – 기다리다 미쳐 (Go Crazy Waiting)

Comment: Top female vocal group Big Mama has made a comeback with their fifth studio album, three years since their last. This album is based on the concept of diversity as well Big Mama-esque styles. It took over two years to prepare and famous composers including Lee Hyeon Jeong, Hong Jeon Soo, and Ryu Hae Jun took part in it. The title track is “Go Crazy Waiting” which was composed by Vibe’s Ryu Hae Jun. It is about loving only one person and will continue to do so even after the love ends and the person leaves. This week it is our biggest mover, up 11 spots to No. 14.

14. (+2) Brown Eyed Soul – 비켜줄께 (I Will Move Aside)

Album: Brown Eyed Soul double single “I Will Move Aside/Blowin My Mind”
Comment: Brown Eyed Soul returns after two years and 5 months with a double single. The songs included in it are the title track, “I Will Move Aside” and follow up number “Blowin’ My Mind.” “I Will Move Aside” is a R&B ballad number with lyrics about telling another person about leaving a loved one’s side coolly. The song starts off with Jung Yeop, Young Jun, and Sang Hoon’s emotional vocals and ends with Naul’s passionate voice. This week it moves up two spots to No. 14.

15. (-3) Jung In – 미워요 (Hate You)

Album: Jung In mini-album “Jung In From Andromeda” Track 3
Comment: Jung In’s first solo hit “Hate You” dropped three spots to No. 15 this week. Fans might have heard of Jung In featured in many Lee Ssang’s songs in the past. The former lead singer of R&B group G.Fla finally have the stage all by herself this time with her first mini-album “Jung In From Andromeda”. Her talent is highly praised by industry insiders and her unique voice is perfect for R&B songs. “Hate You” is written by Panic’s Lee Juck.

16. (-1) M4 – 널 위한 멜로디 (Melody For You)

Album: M4 mini-album “The Story Of M4” Track 1
Comment: This is the title track of M4’s first mini-album “The Story Of M4.” It is a cheerful medium-tempo ballad and it marks the debut of the project group M4, which consists of Kim Won-jun, Lee Se-jun, Bae Ki-sung and Choi Jae-hoon. Comment: This is the title track of December’s digital single album “Honesty.” It is a highly addictive song with a fast beat and gorgeous melody. 18. (-1) Eun Ji Won – 술김에 (While Drunk)

Album: Eun Ji Won digital single “While Drunk” track 1
Comment: Eun Ji Won, who had released his fifth album after 4 years and 10 months has returned once again with his first digital single, “While Drunk.” This electronica hip-hop number was composed by Kim Saejin who has also done works for Lyn, FT Island, and Wheesung. Unlike his recent songs, “While Drunk” is more mainstream oriented and it should find commercial success. This week it dropped one spot to No. 18.

19. (-9) Outsider – 주변인 (Outsider)

Genre: Hip-hop

Music: Rhymer, Master Key / Lyrics: Outsider
Album: Outsider Vol. 2.5 Track 2
Comment: This is the title track of Outsider’s 2.5th mini-album. It is a hip-hop song that depicts lonesome feelings one experiences living in the dull world in a very dramatic and delicate way. Album: Zi-A digital single “Bad Habit” Track 1
Comment: Quietly scoring her third top 20 hits already in 2010, Zi-A releases the second digital single, “Bad Habit” of the T-Project with the theme of timeless. Earlier this year she had released the first single, “Have One Drink” which was based on the theme of woman’s tears due to breakup and sadness. “Bad Habit” is about not being able to forget one’s past love and thus, goes back to past memories like a bad habit. This week it remains at No. 20.
